Please don't tell me the reasons I can't do it. Transferring files, setting stuff up, etc. and I would like to just quickly clone back from the external drive to the new drive. The other reason I need to do this is because it's time to build a new computer before my old drive, mobo, or something else dies. did I mention my computer is TEN YEARS OLD? not spend hours or days rebuilding a main drive with the thousands of files and setups that have accumulated over the last 10 years. Site, and copy that entire disc image onto my new drive.

IF someone breaks into my house and steals my entire computer along with my TV and sofa. if my hard drive dies for whatever reason or melts or is stolen. By now, using the installed versions is likely OK, but perhaps others have opinions on this.I need to have a clone of my ENTIRE SYSTEM on an external drive that I can use to: On to an external USB drive from which I then copy the big mrimg file(s) to the second USB drive I have on another location.

At the moment I'm only doing a monthly full disk image (well, with Differential images) using Macrium Reflect Free.

My habit is to use a bootable USB flash drive for all partitioning operations, but that's probably just a relic of the past when I felt working on an operating drive was risky business. I'm asking for my main desktop Windows 10 PC, which has a single NVMe SSD installed. I don't think MR Free version can do this, but there are several free partitioning programs out there at different times I've used both AOMEI Partition Assistant and MiniTool Partition Wizard successfully. Note: Received Telephone calls delayed my response.ĭo you know if Macrium Free has the features to do what I discussed in mu OP Needless to say, I guess I am being overly cautious with working with the Working 1TB Drive that is basically complete ( for what I needed to accomplish) other than to get a proven and tested method to do the details in my OP. I would prefer (in the future) to be able (for the owners) to do a Partition C Backup to Image file and Restore to only the Primary C partition and I would prepare a small User Guide for them to use in the Future. This allowed me to just unplug the original 1.5 TB drive and retain without any type of change. I used one of my 1TB Drives, did a Quick Format, setup the two partitions (C+D) of the mentioned sizes and used it as the Restore WRITE TO Drive. Thankfully, I had installed Macrium and did an Image Backup (even though at that time) I had not been able to create a Restore CD.

I expect that one of the Sales/Tech people at Best Buy (where they bought the Computer) may have played in that area regarding Password because I am reasonably certain the owners have NEVER did anything regarding using Safe Mode.

It never got to the Safe Node because of needing a Password for which the owners of that computer (so far) have not found (or remembered it) -SO- the Machine would not run as it did previously - prior to this action. One reason is that using the "Project" Win 10 Computer, I "attempted" to go into Safe Mode to see if I could get this Machine (using Macrium) to create a rescue CD. I had not thought to consider that approach. Starting from the 1.0 TB drive, all one C partition:Ĭan you shrink the C partition down to the desired 450 GB size, create an empty D partition with the rest of the drive, then copy whatever files you want to the D partition? ** I did a Restore that completed properly, Boots OK and works correct, however it used the entire 1.0 TB Drive (as C) and did not have area for the above mentioned Partition D.Īby helpful comments will be appreciated. I viewed several articles including "Restore Disks abd Partitions" and "Restore Partitions with Resize and Reorder" but I am not certain their content addresses my needs for the above. I have used Macrium Reflect for a few years but with same (no change in) Partition Configurations. The reason for the (larger than normal C Partition) is that the users may (if desired) continue to use the computer as a ONE partition setup.

#Macrium reflect free external hard drive plus#

Primary Bootable Partition C (size 450 GB) for the restored Win 10 OS plus Installed Programs (plus includes user files up to this date) - and Partition D (size 486 TB) to be used for Data/User Files and Macrium Backup Image files. I want to restore to a 1.0 TB drive with TWO Partitions. Obviously (see below **) I Need some guidence with Restoring a Macrium image file that was created from a 1,5 TB Hard Disk with only one assigned Partion (C:) plus the other normally used small areas. The Image file (and Recovery CD) were created with this version.
